The remarkable thing about the “Mulatham” (the veiled) is what his veil symbolizes, an extension of all those veiled or carried a stone in the struggle for the liberation of the Palestine, and a manifestation of the personal construct of every Palestinian; the ordinary person who was forced to become extraordinary, a superhero hiding his identity under the veil.

In this project, the light is the master abstract artist, and these photographs its body of work that puts forth a representation of its nature alternative to our constructed perceptions, and invites the viewer a step deeper into seeing, where language perhaps cannot function.

Juxtaposing such contrasting concepts; a romantic “orientalist” view of Palestine, and the red “breaking news” banner, looking at the images with today’s eyes, one can observe the way with which the red banner mutates the subject matter entirely, attaching a whole new meaning to it; the red banner becomes an element of intrusion to the composition of the images, derailing their narrative, precisely in the same way Israel is to the lives of Palestinians.

Using this tool of playful rebellion on preset meanings in a setting that is ever evolving; the city -the built environment; with the diversity of its spaces, and complexity of its structures- is reproduced into an enormous playground carrying the potentiality of recreation at every corner.

“Recollection” is an installation that attempts to construct (recollect) a memory of my father that is whole by piecing together its fragments.

Seven Hills is a skateboarder-run, grassroots, non-profit based in Jordan co-founded and directed by Mohammed Zakaria. Seven Hills builds public skateparks, and activates them through free of charge skateboarding programs, for the youth of Jordan of backgrounds.
